Many of us have seen the devastation caused by flooding, especially when hurricane Irene churned up our coast 2 years ago.
Tuesday, on the anniversary of Irene hitting our coast, New Bern officials showed us the improvements they've made since that storm to keep water off the streets and out of your homes. The city hosted a tour of its two storm water pump sites for concerned citizens.
While these pumps can suck up 21,000 gallons of water every minute, they aren't hurricane proof. The pumps were designed to handle smaller flooding problems in the city, specifically neighborhoods surrounding North Hills, Hazel Avenue and the Duffyfield area.
