Some areas are cleaning up after Hurricane Irene, but others may never bounce back.

Hickory Point in Aurora in Beaufort County is one of several neighborhoods nearly washed off the map.

Families evacuated the Hickory Point area only to come back to find the entire neighborhood destroyed. Trees are snapped, homes crushed, others completely washed away.

Tim Jackson and Cindy Hendrick have a house full of stuff -- mostly their neighbor's stuff, washed in during the storm. They say some day they might pick up the pieces and move on. For now, they're just picking through the pieces. Tim says, "We're searching through memorabilia stuff right now. I mean, we lost all our furniture, our appliances, washer, dryer, everything is gone."

Like most of their neighbors, repairs won't be an option. Kelly Clark says she'll "Bulldoze it down or push it down and start over."

For some people, Hickory Point was just their getaway spot here in Aurora. Others lived here year round -- or did. Now they're not sure what they'll do.
