Greenville police are investigating at least the 4th shooting in the city since Thursday. In fact, there were 3 reported shootings within 24 hours. The latest happened around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday night on Fleming street.

Police say a man was shot while standing on the porch of a home on the corner of Fleming Street and Roosevelt Avenue near Sadie Saulter Elementary School.

The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Shikim Alston, who lives next door. He is in good condition at Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Police say other people were on the porch with Alston at the time of the shooting but they say they don't know where the shots came from. Officers say they are not sure if this shooting is related to other recent shootings in Greenville.

Yes, all of the crime that happens in the new housing developments and committed by all of the new hospital and ECU employees is horrible... oh wait, the crime is in existing part of town (or originates there) where it's always been, by the same thugs. We do not want to live "wit" it. We want it to go away.

makes you wonder what the "wonderfull" cops we have here in greenville are doing. what are cops in gereral doing? for the size of this town, there's an awful lot of crime. GVPD spends too much time across the train tracks stopping people for looking suspicious, messing with college kids, or writing under age drinking tickets and focus on the real crime in greenville, being across the train tracks in west greenville. cops here are a joke!

It's not the cops, it's the "feel sorry for the thugs" police chief, and the revolving door court system we have.

The police have no duty or legal obligation to provide protection or security for individual citizens--the Supreme Court has ruled on this in over a half-dozen cases. Your own personal security is your PERSONAL responsibility... Relying on the police to "protect" you is like relying on your insurance broker to keep you out of traffic accidents. Both are there to respond to your predicament AFTER the bad thing happens, and to find and extract justice from the perpetrator--NOT to "keep you safe"... Wake up, man...

Different day, same old thugs running around. Four shootings in a week. I say lets make it consistent and go for a shooting every day. It's not like the 'Po' Chief gives a rip. That's one person who should be FIRED by the city. He has done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for this city except hold a few cookouts and block 'partayyyys' on 5th skreet.

Sometimes I wish we could just send riot police into West Greenville and enforce a curfew on every corner... full shields, tear gas, batons, guns... keep the thugs in their homes, and if they come out, give them what they've got coming to them. That's the only Government assistance these people need.

Sorry but criminals are in every corner of Greenville. Parents need to raise the next generation better.

A majority of the crime is stemming from West Greenville. A good study (ECU student project) would be to track where all the criminals arrested in Pitt County are putting down as their address. This would give us a more accurate picture of where Greenvill'e problems stem from.

I bet the one who commited this crime is a convicted felon already, who pays no child support for his own children and has no job. When is this crazyness going to end? As a service member currently deployed with my wife and kids in Greenville, this troubles me greatly. I can try to protect the American people, but I feel like I cannot protect my family from worthless scum who continually commit these crimes. Where is the SCLC and NAACP? I guess black on black crime is ok with them.

Thank you for your service. I can't even begin to imagine how you must feel and am truely sorry you and the other brave men and women in the military have to worry about your families' safety while you are deployed. Keep safe and God Bless.

He didn't say "where were they to prevent the crime", he was asking where they are now to stand up for the people they claim to advance when those people are shooting each other. DUH!

Being anti-NAACP is a wonderful thing. Being anti-black is a horrible thing. There are still good black people around, and also good mexicans around.
