Newport Man Dies After Being Thrown From Jeep

The Highway Patrol says a Newport man who was critically injured in a single vehicle car crash last week has died.

Austin Sherron passed away Tuesday night at Vidant Medical Center.

The crash happened around midnight Friday on Highway 70, just outside of Beaufort.

Troopers say Sherron was speeding as he headed west on Highway 70 around midnight near Tiffany Woods. He lost control, ran off the road and hit a ditch. At that point, troopers say Sherron's Jeep went airborne and hit a utility pole at least five feet in the air. The Jeep landed upside down in a field. Sherron was found in the turning lane of the highway.
