NC Woman Gets 12 Years For $3.5M Of Medicaid Fraud

A Murfreesboro woman who defrauded Medicaid of more than $3.5 million has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Prosecutors say Shirlene Boone was ordered Tuesday to repay what she stole along with more than $1 million to the Internal Revenue Service and $45,000 to the North Carolina Employment Security Commission.

Authorities say Boone's scam lasted for 13 years as she billed for services that were never provided and told employees of her community support services and HIV case management firm to fake timecards for hours they did not work.

Investigators say Boone had her workers apply for unemployment while they worked and took a cut of that money.

Prosecutors say Boone also failed to pay withholding taxes for her employees.

They need to be sure to charge the employees who filed the bogus unemployment claims as well. Shameful! Unemployment benefits when many are struggling during this rough economy!

They need to stop these CAP agencies from allowing a family member to be the patient's CAP aide. It's okay to get paid to take care of your husband, mother, father or even child. That's wide open for abuse too! I see that every day.

It's these selfish people that make it bad for those of us in legit/legal Health Dept based Home Health agencies certified to provide care under Medicare/Medicaid benefits. Our paperwork is endless, and we work on salaries depending on the county we work in. I agree, these people ride around in the fancy cars, live in the big houses and get all the grants from the government while they rob others blind. The government won't crack down on any of these. Where do you think they get their votes from? These agencies haul patients to vote but won't take them to get groceries. Those employees oh hers should get some time too.

I have to agree with all the previous comments. I really want to start naming some companies and put them on blast. I say that because I have worked in homecare for over ten years and I'm sick of tired of the abuse. They make minorities work in inhabitable conditions and that affects our health. It's just crazy. The governement needs to get more involved because i'm going to continue being a whistleblower as long as my rights and others are being violated from these criminal, because that's exactly what they are: CRIMINALS/ U.S. citizens it's time to wake up and stop letting theses companies take our money.
