WASHINGTON -- Zeno Edwards, who served two terms in the state House of Representatives as a Republican and two as a Democrat, has died. He was 84.
The Paul Funeral Home of Washington says Edwards died Saturday at Pitt County Memorial Hospital. The cause of death wasn't known.
Edwards, a retired dentist who lived in Washington, was fondly recalled by former legislative colleagues.
Rep. Bill Owens, (D) Pasquotank, says Edwards always spoke his mind and stood his ground.
Edwards served two terms as a Republican in the early 1990s before losing a GOP primary. He then won two elections as a Democrat in 1998 and 2000 before deciding not to run again.
According to his obituary, a celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 23 at the First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
