Arrangements Made For "Bing" Mitchell

A memorial service will be held 1:30PM Saturday November 27, 2010 at the First Christian Church of Washington officiated by Rev. Amanda Hesbach and Derik Davis.

The family will receive friends Friday November 26, 2010 from 6:00PM-8:00PM at Paul Funeral Home of Washington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Marion L. Shepard Cancer Center, 1209 Brown Street, Washington, NC 27889.

North Carolina has lost a high school football coaching legend. "Bing" Mitchell has passed away at the age of 64 after a long battle against cancer.

He was a 1964 graduate of Bertie Senior High School and a 1968 graduate of East Carolina University with a bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education. Coach Mitchell had a career spanning 36 years working at Bertie, Bath, Washington, Northside and South Central High Schools.

Coach Mitchell served as an assistant coach for the Bertie Senior High School State Championship Basketball team, was an assistant coach for the North Carolina East-West All Star game.

Mitchell was a longtime head football coach in Beaufort County leading the Washington Pam Pack from 1980-1986. He would later become the head football coach at Northside High School leading the Panthers to a 13-2 record in 2000 and 12-3 record in 2004 with current Green Bay Packers defensive tackle C.J. Wilson.

Coach Mitchell was most recently an assistant coach under Walt Davis at South Central High School in Winterville. He took the job in 2006 and coached until 2008 when he became strickened with cancer.
