NC DOT Awards $13.6 Million In Eastern Carolina Road Projects

The North Carolina Department of Transportation has awarded $13.6 million in road construction projects in Eastern Carolina.

The list of contracts is below, by county.


PITT COUNTY
The NC DOT awarded a contract to resurface 9.8 miles of N.C. 102 and add two-to three-foot shoulders from east of the Ayden city limit to N.C. 43 in Pitt County. A $3.4 million contract was awarded to Greenville Paving & Contracting Inc. of Greenville for the work, which is scheduled to begin as early as May 31, with final completion scheduled for no later than Nov. 30. N.C. 102 will remain open during construction with lane closures in place.


BEAUFORT COUNTY
The NC DOT awarded a contract to resurface 7.9 miles of U.S. 264 and add two-to three-foot shoulders from Seed Tick Neck Road to Cemetery Road in Beaufort County. A $2.7 million contract was awarded to Barnhill Contracting Co. of Tarboro for the work, which can begin as early as May 31, with final completion scheduled for no later than Nov. 30. U.S. 264 will remain open during construction with lane closures in place.


CHOWAN, TYRRELL, WASHINGTON COUNTIES

The NC DOT awarded a contract to resurface 15.7 miles of roadway in Chowan, Tyrrell and Washington Counties. A $1.6 million contract was awarded to Barnhill Contracting Co. of Tarboro for the work, which can begin as early as May 31, with final completion scheduled for no later than Nov. 1. The following road in Chowan County will be resurfaced: Macedonia Road from N.C. 32 to Tip-Toe Street.

The following roads in Tyrrell County will be resurfaced: Newsland Road from Crosslanding Road to N.C 94; Albemarle Church Road from Deep Creek Road to the Washington County line; and Southside Road from new pavement to Newfoundland Road.

The following roads in Washington County will be resurfaced: Woodlawn Road from N.C. 308 to Cross Road; Deep Creek Road from Davenport Forks Road to the Tyrrell County line; and Hortontown Road from N.C. 32 to Cross Road.


MARTIN COUNTY

The NC DOT awarded a contract to resurface 13.5 miles of roadway in Martin County. A $1.3 million contract was awarded to Barnhill Contracting Co. of Tarboro for the work, which can begin as early as May 31, with final completion scheduled for no later than Nov. 1. The following roads in Martin County will be resurfaced: Osbourne Road from end of pavement to beginning of pavement; Robersonville Product from Winslow Road to N.C. 903; Airport Road from Robersonville Product to Everetts Road; Smithwick Creek from U.S. 17 to Johnny Corey Road; Tar Landing Road from U.S. 64 to Reason Road; Grey Farm Road from U.S. 64 to U.S. 64; and Kader Lilley Road from Holly Springs Church Road to Mill Inn Road.


BERTIE, MARTIN, CHOWAN COUNTY BRIDGES

The NC DOT awarded a contract to replace eight bridges in Bertie, Chowan and Martin Counties. A $4.6 million contract was awarded to S.T. Wooten Corp. of Wilson for the work, which is scheduled to begin as early as May 31, with final completion scheduled for no later than Dec. 1, 2013. The following bridges will be replaced in Bertie County: Woodard Road bridge over Roquist Creek; Woodard Road bridge over Branch of Roquist Creek; Middle Tract Road bridge over Roanoke River Tributary; White Oak Road over Branch of White Oak Swamp; and Pocosin Road bridge over Branch of White Oak Swamp. The following bridge will be replaced in Chowan County: Greenhall Road bridge over Pembroke Creek tributary. The following bridge will be replaced in Martin County: Green Acres Road bridge over Ready Branch.
