Motorcyclist Dies In Pitt County Accident

A motorcyclist died over the weekend while traveling on a Pitt County road.

The Highway Patrol says 36-year-old Rethselevi Cunningham of Greenville was traveling down Stantsonburg Road Sunday afternoon when he went off the road to the right, and crashed the bike. The man was thrown off the bike and struck a DOT sign.

Troopers say his body landed in the yard of 4172 Stantonsburg Road. Another motorist saw Cunningham run off the road and called for help.

Troopers say while Cunningham was pronounced dead at the hospital, they believed he was already dead on the scene.

The Highway Patrol doesn't know what caused Cunningham to run off the road, but First Sgt. Marvin Williams says the motorcycle was traveling 10 miles over the 45 posted limit at the time of the crash.

My prayers go out to this family. MY daughter is in his son's class at school, and he is such a sweet little boy. I am so sorry for your loss, may he rest in peace. I will keep this family in my prayers.

Rethselevi is my brother and we have lost him due to an accident of no ones fault. If you have any negative comments about what happened to him AND U WERE NOT THERE it would greatly be appreciated if you keep it to yourself because no one God and himself knows what happened. Thank you!

People, how about have some class about yourselves and not try to analyze how fast he was going. Somewhere a mother has lost her son and all you can do is talk about speed???

A car has airbags & seat belts, not to mention 4 wheels and a larger frame on a sealed protective skin. Riding in a car is much safer. These are facts.

to anonymous...i am a fellow biker and to a non biker, 55 may sound like 75 to you but regardless, let this young man rest in peace!!! no need for second hand commentary, the troopers stated his estimated speed and that's where it should end.

Unless you were on the bike with him you have no idea what his speed was, so YOU DON'T KNOW what was going on!!
