Explosion At Former Motel Injures Four In Wayne County

Four people were injured after an explosion tore through a former motel Friday morning.

Major Tom Effler with the Wayne County Sheriff's Office tells WITN News they are investigating the possibility of a meth lab explosion at the old Goldwater Motel on Highway 117 Alternate in Dudley. The former motel had been turned into apartments.

It happened around 4:20 a.m. with one of the rooms having its front walls blown out. Effler says four people who were either in or around the room were injured. Three of those victims have been flown to the burn center in Chapel Hill.

Those flown to the burn center are Joshua Summerlin, 21 from Beautancus Rd. in Mount Olive, Regina Rugkit, who is 28 years old from Wayne County, and Randy Johnson, who is 27 years old from the Mt. Olive area. Tracy Grady, who deputies say rented the room, is still at Wayne Memorial Hospital

The burn center says all three are listed in good condition.

The State Bureau of Investigation has been called in to help investigate the explosion.

Well Dawn, I do know these people personally unfortunately and I'm pretty sure it was a meth lab, it's a known fact in Goldsboro what that little circle does and public record doesn't lie. Why you would defend them is beyond me. Maybe it's because your dealers are in the burn unit and it's inconveniencing your fix???

If you have read Sunday's edition of the Goldsboro News Argus, you will see one of these names in the Superior Court Section where she was convicted of Meth Possession.

To:Dawn..let me guess you know these people and you are trying to defend them! You are right about one thing we don't know for sure if it was a meth lab, we are going by what was reported. I just want to know why you want to meet with "Harry" to discuss things "he" maybe wrong on some of the numbers, but other than that "he" hit the nail on the head. Read a book every now and then and you would not think they are big words that "he" used!

You know, people talk...or say text on this computer...But it's a known fact that there not sure if this was a Meth Lab or not...So until someone is officially charged, or they come out with evidence...People need to stop assuming...and wait for the fact..

To Harry: You may be a tad off on your numbers, but nonetheless on the right track...if anyone thinks the taxpayer will not pay for this, or has already paid for this, you are not aware for whom the bell tolls.

They ruin the property in the meth cook requiring a professional environmental crew costing thousands of dollars to clean the place up. Guess who is paying that bill? The meth heads are now in a hospital Burn Unit no less. Guess who is paying that bill? As it is likely these screwballs cannot afford attorneys for their defense in court, guess who is paying the bill? They cannot pay the court costs so guess again who pays the bill? If they are addicted they will need counseling and addiction treatment and guess who pays for it. Hotel Environmental Cleanup $ 500,000.00 Four burn unit patient bills $2,000,000.00 Judicial Costs $ 250,000.00 Attorney's Fees $ 100,000.00 Incarceration Costs 5 Yrs 4 Pers $1,000,000.00 Addiction Counseling & Treat $ 500,000.00 How can the screwballs responsible for this escapade ever pay the costs of their spring loaded stupidity?
