Some people in the east will be able to mail their letters to Santa Friday morning as a local post office will be back in business.
The Morehead City Post Office was closed Wednesday after a tornado ripped through Carteret County. That branch stayed closed Thursday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
The branch had minor damage after a tornado hit the area overnight Tuesday.
Post Master Ed Hoffman said the building is safe for employees and customers now.
"Given the circumstances, things could have been much worse," said Hoffman. "I'm thankful all our employees were okay and the building didn't have any serious damage."
The post office opens at 8:30 a.m. Friday.
The possible tornado that hit Morehead City has damaged their post office, which is now closed to the public.
Postal officials are onsite assessing the damage, but for now access is restricted. Postmaster Ed Hoffman says carriers will still be able to make their deliveries today, but those with post office boxes will have to pick up their mail at the Atlantic Beach Post Office on Fort Macon Road, after 1:30 p.m.
The postmaster expects to have an update on the damage later today.
