The heat wave continued across eastern North Carolina Thursday with highs in the middle to upper 90s inland and upper 80s along the beaches. The combination of temperature and moderate relative humidity levels took heat indices into the range of 100° to 104°. More heat and humidity can be expected for Friday with highs reaching the middle 90s inland and upper 80s on the coast. A few thunderstorms could develop late in the day or evening but any cooling will be temporary. The heat and high humidity will continue through the weekend.
