Missing Carteret County Kayaker Found

A 79-year-old man who went missing after kayaking Sunday evening has been found.

An official from the U.S. Sector says the man's wife alerted authorities Sunday night after he did not return home from a kayaking trip. The U.S. Coast Guard found the man overnight, and he was taken to Carteret General Hospital by EMS.

The hospital has not released the man's name or condition.

The couple is vacationing in North Carolina near Goose Creek Resort in Newport.

Sometome it's best to "chill out" rather than get one's self into a bind when on the water or anywhere else for that matter. At that age, in 21 years, I may not want to be found. Would rather the crabs or sharks get me than some of the revenue generating medical, assisted living and nursing facilities in ENC.

Was the boater or boater and boat missing? Sometimes as you get alittle older, you just lose track of time.....

To The US Coast Guard: Please when you announce that there is a problem or someone missing or a boat problem tell the general area - when you hear "sector nc" you do not know where the actual problem is - a lat and long is good but unless you have a plotter or a chart in front of you the numbers are useless. So not only a lat and long should be provided but also a distance and vector from known point would be a great help.
