Minority Business Expo Held In Greenville

A minority business expo was held in the East Saturday giving some small businesses a chance to network and shine.

More than 40 vendors signed up for the event at the Boys and Girls Club in the Winterville. This is the 5th annual expo. Vendor prices for tables run from 75 to 250 dollars.

Veteran business owners and budding entrepreneurs exchanged ideas and showcased their products.

Booths focused on health services, natural beauty products, children’s' books, graphics companies and much more.

Organizers of the expo have encouragement for start up companies here in our area.

Sean Moye says, "If you are a minority company and you think you have a knack for business, go out there, try it. You never know what could happen. If you succeed one time, you’ll succeed again. If you fail get back up and start again."

Israel Ward says, "That’s really what we focus on more so than anything, networking and making connections that you can call people after the event and still sell your products and services."

Ward and Moye also stressed how important diversity is for business here in the east.

Congratulations to Sean and Israel for organizing the event. It was a great opportunity for all entrepreneurs to share with the community. Love that our vendor display appears first on the video.

Some of the statements made on this post should be thought about before spoken! Minority means as addressed in the dictionary,a smaller group opposed to a majority. So females and many other races than just Black or White could fall into this cateogory. It's time we as people in general stop tearing one another's efforts down and STOP LOOKING AT SOMETHING AS SMALL AS race!!!

What racist pigs. LOTS of folks of ALL races would love info on doing a business... but the racists would not spend money at the targetes race's stores.

Part of your comment is a bit insulting to many readers, though I think I understand what you object to in this article. You can visit your local Chamber of Commerce and get some information free, on how to start up your own business. Since you are so passionate about starting a business, what kind of business will you be setting up?

I wish that WITN would start forcing people to use Facebook connect, it always keeps the comment sections relevant.

I have a black neighbor who owns a 'minority business’ that provides services for our state. He bids against white owned companies doing the exact same thing. He told me he gets more state contracts than white owned companies even though he is sometimes two/three times more expensive just because his business is considered 'minority owned'. That to me people is WRONG! 'Minority owned' should not have any leverage when awarded contracts from our government. Our government needs to award contracts to the lowest bidder regardless of race, minority ownership, etc... No wonder he lives in a mansion and drives a very expensive car…

Hold on now I never saw anyone say you couldn't open an all black charter school yet I've never seen one. I guess it just goes to show where the priorities lay!

I don't see anywhere in the article who is considered a minority...just sayin'. Women were considered a minority once; are they still? If so, should I run right out and get a small business loan? How will I pay it back if my small, minority business fails? These are the questions one has to ask before launching that big dream, regardless of whether or not you fall into a minority category.

im sure the white only expo will be next week. oh wait! that would be racist. i guess it's ok to prefer another race as long as that race isnt white. Gotta love all the weak minds who are always the victims and always seeing color

I guess you are CLOSE-MINDED to think that minority automatically means.....NOT WHITE! I went to the expo and I saw white women with booths.....so I'm so glad that you're anonymous up here so the public won't know who this silly person actually is......

Personally, I have no problem with this. They are trying to strengthen their economic status. It's smart. I do wish we lived in a time where they did not think this a needed thing, but it is good business. Maybe this is the last year.

Perhaps you folks that think this is so racist need to look up the definition of minority. Better yet, attend the event to learn more it so you will actually know what you are commenting about. The majority of businesses across the nation are owned/led by white males. Anyone that does not fit this description is included in the minority; this includes white women. Yes, white women attend and set up booths at this event every year. Does that make them racist too? Geez, get over it!
