Mechanics Working On A/C Sweat It Out In Extreme Heat

The dangerous heat in the east makes it difficult for anyone who has to go without air conditioning. Many people have brought their cars to their local garage for an A/C check up, and most of the mechanics are sweating it out in the garage.

Fans, water, and gatorade have been helping auto mechanics in Craven County get through the day. At Snap Dragon Auto Repair on Queen Street in New Bern, John Jones was working on a truck's air conditioning unit in a building with no air condition. On the other side of town at BBD Automotive, owner Brett Dodge was trying to keep his workers cool with a portable air conditioning unit.

"People are just coming in and making sure it's working properly, if they need a little shot of freon, a little tune up here and there, batteries, stuff like that- overheating problems. Yeah, it's brought the business in a little bit better. I'm ready for winter," said Dodge.

At Baldree's Tire and Service, owner Bill Baldree says they have been replacing more batteries because of the heat. He says this is the longest stretch of hot weather he can remember in the 50 years they've been in business in New Bern.
