Another county manager here in Eastern Carolina is getting a big pay raise.
Martin County Manager Russell Overman's salary is receiving a $30,000 a year boost. His new salary will be $113,913, up from $83,913.
County Commissioners Chairman Butch Lilley says they had heard Overman was interviewing at other places, and they didn't want to lose him.
Overman has been county manager for six years, and Lilley says he was hired at the bottom of the salary range. He said in several of those years Overman received no pay raise. "He's an outstanding manager for Martin County and has genuine concerns and a great attitude for serving the needs of Martin County citizens," Lilley told WITN.
Overman's pay raise was unanimous.
Earlier this year Bertie County Manager Zee Lamb's salary jumped from $102,000 in 2010 to around $144,000 in 2011, which drew protests at county commissioner meetings.
