Camp Lejeune Places 24 Businesses "Off Limits" For Selling Spice

Camp Lejeune has joined Cherry Point in placing dozens of Onslow County businesses "off limits" because they sell synthetic marijuana known as Spice or K2.

The order from the base commander--effective February 7--lists 24 businesses in Jacksonville, Maysville, Richlands, and Sneads Ferry. Last week 19 establishments in Craven and Carteret counties were put on the off limits list by Cherry Point.

Previous Story

Cherry Point has placed 19 businesses "off limits" to Marines for selling synthetic marijuana.

Last summer commanders at Camp Lejeune and Cherry Point told businesses not to sell "Spice" and "K2" to area Marines or face the possibility of being placed on the "off limits" list.

Marines have been told they can face punishment if caught using the designer drug and just Thursday a North Carolina senate committee voted to recommend legislation to impose penalties similar to real marijuana for possessing or selling a synthetic compound sold in gas stations and convenience stores.

The synthetic marijuana is legal in most states and is hard to discover through drug testing.

In an email from Cherry Point, obtained by WITN News, the order was effective February 1st.

The businesses are various tobacco shops and convenience stores in Atlantic Beach, Beaufort, Havelock, Morehead City, New Bern and Newport.

Camp Lejeune is also expected to list businesses on Monday in the Jacksonville area which are off limits as well.

u do drugs and put eggs in with milk in a bag, no biggie but if someone in our military does drugs gets addicted and gets deployed and cause a death or more because of the drugs. Or worse here in the states someone is high on whatever and kills a person or 2 on a range. People in the military r held to higher standards because they defend this country, would u want someone high on whatever ensuring your freedom? And if u think that its wrong they cant tell grown people what to do, well they can. as far as i know everyone in the military regardless of branch signed a contract of their own will to follow orders from those above them. And if u needed a news article to tell u were to buy drugs and u use drugs, obviously u r doing something wrong. And to say caffeine, alcohol and smokes should b banned, please. yes they have a negative effect upon the body over a long period of use but i have never heard of someone who died from smoking or drinking after one or 2 times, except drunk driving

In northern Mississippi's Itawamba County, Sheriff Chris Dickinson said his office has handled about 30 encounters with users of the advertised bath salts in the past two months alone. He said the problem grew last year in his rural area after a Mississippi law began restricting the sale of pseudoephedrine, a key ingredient in making methamphetamine. Dickinson said most of the bath salt users there have been meth addicts and can be dangerous when using them. "We had a deputy injured a week ago. They were fighting with a guy who thought they were two devils. That's what makes this drug so dangerous," he said. But Dickinson said the chemicals are legal for now, leaving him no choice but to slap users with a charge of disorderly conduct, a misdemeanor.

I was appalled when I stopped in at the No. 7 store across from Beau. County Community College and found a sign in there posted that said they sold bath salts for like $20 or $30. I won't patronize that establishment ever again.

This is not something new. When I was in the MC from 69 to 75, a lot of etablishments were listed as off-limits. Many issues led to them being off limits. I never saw a place listed as "off-limits" for frivolous reasons.

i unfortunatly had to deal with a man that was high on "kush" simular drug and effects. This guy was pulling on his privates screaming a snake was biting him. All of it should be pulled from the market and put under the same statutes as LSD, heroin and meth.
