Marine Pilot Arrested On More Exposure Counts

A grounded Marine Corps pilot has been served with more indecent exposure charges.

Jacksonville police this weekend arrested Major Danny Cohlmeyer on the two counts. The Osprey pilot from New River had already been charged with another count last weekend.

These latest charges accused the Marine officer of exposing himself with two women at Coastal Carolina Community College on October 27th and 28th. His bond was set at $50,000.

Last week the Marine Corps reassigned Cohlmeyer to the 2d Marine Aircraft Wing at Cherry Point and said so far he faces no military charges.

He was released on bond. A Coastal spokeswoman says Cohlmeyer was not a student at the college.

Previous Story

A Marine Corps major, who is already facing one count of indecent exposure, has two more charges against him.

Major Danny Cohlmeyer was first arrested Sunday by Onslow County deputies after a woman reported a man got out of his pickup truck at a convenience store and was naked from the waist down. The woman told deputies the man was touching himself in a lewd manner.

Jacksonville police now say they have two warrants out for Cohlmeyer. Those incidents apparently happened at Coastal Carolina Community College. When contacted this afternoon, a college spokesman would only say they have cooperated with Jacksonville police in their investigation. The court clerk's office says they have no record of the new warrants being served.

Cohlmeyer was an Osprey pilot at New River, but after his arrest the 2d Marine Aircraft Wing said the major was being grounded and reassigned to Cherry Point headquarters. No military charges have been brought against the Marine officer.

A Marine pilot who is accused of exposing himself to a woman at an Onslow County convenience store has been grounded and reassigned.

Major Danny Cohlmeyer was arrested Sunday by deputies after a woman said the Marine pulled up beside her at the store and was naked from the waist down when he got out of his pickup truck. The woman said Cohlmeyer was also touching himself.

The 37-year-old was an Osprey pilot at New River. A spokesman for the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing says the major has been reassigned to their headquarters at Cherry Point. Spokesman Mike Barton says in his new billet the major will not fly an aircraft.

Cohlmeyer joined the Marines in 1993 and has had multiple deployments to Iraq. The Marine Corps says there are no military charges against the major at this time as his arrest is still under investigation.

The major has a January 25th court date in Jacksonville.

A Marine Corps major is accused of exposing himself at an Onslow County convenience store this weekend.

Deputies have charged Major Danny Cohlmeyer with one count of indecent exposure. The 37-year-old Cohlmeyer is stationed at the New River Air Station and is an Osprey pilot.

Onslow County deputies say the Marine was arrested Sunday. They say deputies were sent to the Friendly Mart on Highway 17 South around 4:00 p.m.. A woman customer told them she was pumping gas and a pickup truck pulled up to the next pump. She told deputies a man, who was naked from the waist down and touching himself, got out of his truck.

The woman said when she told the man she was calling authorities he pulled his clothes up and drove off. The victim managed to get the pickup truck's license plate number.

Deputies say when confronted, the Marine major gave them a story hoping to justify what he did.

I have known him for years. He is one of the best officers I had the chance to serve with. I think it was the stress that got to him.

IF this guy did what he's accused of...inexcusable. Conduct unbecoming of a military officer-without a doubt. Should he pay the price? Certainly, just like anyone else who breaks the law. But all of you lining up to bash the Marines bc of his behavior are imbiciles. Show me a zero defect organization anywhere. Let me save you the trouble, it doesn't exist. IF guilty, this guy is not representative of the vast majority of military officers or personnel who dutifully and professionally serve their country every day.

Apparently his wife knew nothing and served him divorce papers.

He wasn't a student at Coastal, but his wife is a professor there. Interesting, don't you all think?

I am a little concerned about the fact that both his children are in my child's class and see each other daily.

Where is justice here. This guy is acused of exposing himself to two women and he is under $50,000 bond. A guy runs naked in front of thousands of people at the ECU game, and he is under a $1,500 bond. Go figure?

As they get older, some have so many metals/awards/rank patches and such that they hardly have any place left to put them on their outfit. The Boy Scouts have a better method figured out.
