Hearing For Man Accused Of Killing Sister, Shooting Mother

A man accused of killing his sister and shooting his mother was in court Monday for a competency hearing.

Three doctors in the field of psychology testified that based on evidence, 39-year-old Dennis Connolley of Onslow County knew what he was doing the day of the shooting, but was unaware of the wrongfulness of his actions based on his mental illness.

Defense testimony revealed Connolley said he was not trying to hurt his sister or mother, but was trying to protect them from condemnation he brought about the family from his sins, such as stealing items from his job and having a sexual relationship outside of wedlock.

Court will resume Tuesday afternoon.

A man accused of killing his sister and attempting to kill his mother is due in court Monday.

District Attorney Elect Ernie Lee says Dennis Connolley will be in court in Onslow County for a competency/sanity hearing. The 39 year old is accused of killing his sister, Victoria Baker, and attempting to kill his mother, Gloria Baker. Both were shot on Harris Creek Loop Road in Onslow County in July 2007. Victoria Baker died from her injuries, while Gloria Baker survived.

He had no job, I know the person He lost his job cause of cut backs. And he had other stresses in his life. His Sister and mom was not helpng him. So if you don't know what or how or even when. Back off. If you are a christiian person who are you to judge. That is in the hands of God.

It is so easy to judge, careful in doing so, until you have walked in one's shoes you never know what a person is going through. God so love the world that he gave his only son..so that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life!! Think twice before casting judgement!!

Christina-- stress is not an excuse to kill someone or attempt to kill. I am stressed out every day with my job but I do not kill people nor would it be excused if I did. These people should be prosecuted for murders. We spend way too much money and time trying to prove mentall incompetent when that fact does not change the crime that was done and the crime should be punishable by law regaurdless of the motive. Mentally Ill or not, someone died and someone should have to pay the consequences for their actions. Or maybe I'll decide to just act/become crazy or "mentally Ill" so I can kill someone and get away with it.... it does not make sense when you stand back and really think about the situation

What this man has done is wrong. But I belive that he might of been stressed out and or slight case of bulling. Families can bully and stress people out as well as teens. This doesn't excuase what has happened ,but it is something to think about.
