Hearing For Man Accused Of Killing Sister, Shooting Mother

A man accused of killing his sister and shooting his mother was in court Monday for a competency hearing.

Three doctors in the field of psychology testified that based on evidence, 39-year-old Dennis Connolley of Onslow County knew what he was doing the day of the shooting, but was unaware of the wrongfulness of his actions based on his mental illness.

Defense testimony revealed Connolley said he was not trying to hurt his sister or mother, but was trying to protect them from condemnation he brought about the family from his sins, such as stealing items from his job and having a sexual relationship outside of wedlock.

Court will resume Tuesday afternoon.
