A man already wanted for failing to appear in court and second degree trespassing was arrested after allegedly punching the mother of his son.

New Bern police arrested 36-year-old Percy Smith of Vanceboro just after noon Monday. Police say Smith had come to visit his son in New Bern when he became upset with the juvenile. Police say Venetta Looney, the boys mother, asked Smith to leave. Looney says Smith then punched her in the mouth and took her walking cane and hit her on the right side of the head.

Smith was arrested on the prior warrants for trespassing and not appearing in court. Bond is expected to be set for the assault on a female charge within 48 hours.
