Man Who Set His Business On Fire Gets 5 Years In Prison

An eastern Carolina man who set his own business on fire is headed to prison.

41-year-old Mahmoud Ashubi of Kinston pleaded guilty earlier this year to torching the tobacco, deli and grocery store in Kinston that he owned. Wednesday he was sentenced to 5 years behind bars.

Authorities say Ashubi claimed the fire started from an electrical short in the microwave and filed a $115,000 insurance claim. An investigation determined the fire was arson and originated in the cabinet below the microwave.
