Man Who Attacked Defense Lawyer Makes Guilty Plea

Extra security was on hand for a guilty plea in Onslow County for a man who last year attacked a prominent Boston defense attorney.

Eben Howard was brought back to North Carolina to face the 2003 killing of his ex-wife's boyfriend in Jacksonville.

Under a plea agreement the state agreed to drop the murder charge for a plea to voluntary manslaughter. Dave Johnson was strangled on May 3, 2003 in his Richland's home.

The judge sentenced Howard to serve just over 5 to 7 years in prison.

In January 2010 attorney Jeffrey Denner was attacked by Howard in a Boston courtroom while representing the man for an assault on a correctional officer.

Why give a maniac like this a plea deal? And only 5-7 years for killing someone? This is ridiculous!!! Heinous!! Another proof that our judicial system is once more failing the communities!! I am very angry at this. And for the record, I do not know anyone involved in this crime. I would just hate to know someone killed a person in my family then they get a plea deal, and only 5-7 years (which he'll probably only pull half of). And for the record, I am a white female.....29 years old.

That's sad that a violent person of this nature will ONLY get 5-7 in a "plea agreement" for killing someone. There is no real justice for those who have been murdered when those who are living place such a small price on the value of a life.
