Man Tries To Run Over Rocky Mount Police Officer With Car

A man is in jail after police say he tried to run over a Rocky Mount police officer Wednesday morning.

The officer was directing traffic at the Club Rain parking lot as it was closing around 2:15 a.m. Police say Lorenza Moody, Jr. yelled that he would run over the officer with the car and then accelerated toward the officer.

The officer was able to move out of the way and the 26-year-old Moody was pulled over and arrested. He's charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill a government official and is in jail on a $50,000 secured bond.
