VIOLENT NIGHT: Pitt County Investigates As Two Are Shot, One Stabbed

After Pitt County lawmen arrested a murder suspect and two others believed to be connected to the crime in December, investigators were called to two new crime scenes.

The Pitt County Sheriff's Office says one man was shot, and another was stabbed on Samuel Court., which is off County Home Rd., just south of Greenville. The call came in at 12:12 a.m. Monday.

In that case deputies say Carlos Guilford and Kim Midgett had argued earlier in the day and the woman later called her nephew, Christopher Carter. Carter also brought an uncle, Terrance Whitaker, to the home as well.

Deputies say the two started hitting Guilford and he pulled out a knife, wounding Carter in the abdomen. They say one of the two men then pulled out a gun and shot Guilford in the chest.

Whitaker has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to inflict serious injury. He's in jail on a $750,000 secured bond.

Wallace says lawmen are also investigating a shooting at the Copper Kettle night club, which is on Highway 903 North in Pitt County. The call came to investigators at 2:48 a.m.

They say Billy Evans, Jr. was struck in the left abdomen after people in a car across from the nightclub and a car in the parking lot exchanged gunfire.

He was treated and released from Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

The shootings on Highway 903 and on Samuel Court happened after lawmen arrested a man for a murder they say took place on Christmas Eve.

I guess the thugs got word that crime supposedly went down in Grenville in 2010. Therefore, they are making ammends in 2011.

People on this blog keep saying "every where else is just as bad". I don't think we've had a shooting here since New Years. At least two weeks. Greenville or kinston seem to never miss a day.

And the GPD was just on TV less than 48 hours ago trying to make us believe the crime rate had dropped in Greenville. Go figure.

To Blackbagger: I do not think that way at all and I'm white. There are a lot of sorry people in this world. I think all of us that work (including yourself) are sick and tired of freeloaders and we don't care what race they are. Don't take these comments personally. No one can make you feel less worthy but you.

That doesn't sound like a resort or vacation to me. Raise your personal standards. Punishments for violence, however, should be stiffer in my opinion. I agree with that- a recent study showed 3/4 of people in prison were not there for violent nor antisocial crimes- they are there for involvement (use or distribution) with drugs that kill less than 14,000 people annually. I would prefer to pay $40,000 per year for a violent felon than for drug users. Let's keep the violent offenders in prison and treat the drug problem like the public health issue that it is.

To Truth and others. One of our federal prisons has two golf courses and a creek where they can fish. No fences, eat when you wish and this, I repeat, is for our elite prisoners. This was near Montgomery, Alabama. Hope the government has changed this. It is vacation time at some federal prisons.

Its not the gun laws that need to be tougher, its tougher punishments. They shouldn't have bail, and when they go to prison they need to work, everyday. The way the system is now, they are on vacation while they are locked up. They get 3 meals a day, nice bed, they even get recess to go play ball and lift weights. Sounds more like a resort to me. Prisons need to be PRISONS.

"Average Night @ Greenville nightclub". Bang Bang! Let's bring the guns to a place they serve alcohol. Sounds like a great idea to me!

This can be said for any place. Blacks get blamed for it in most places, but it's not right to point the finger at them because not ALL of them are the "lowlifes". However, because the white people are seen as racists if we intervene, we have to wait for the black community to take action. Unfortunately some blacks think the problem isn't their concern or feel that the white community is treating/judging the blacks unfairly. The NAACP gives this poor judgment credence and perpetuates the stereotypes and double standards. . . On a funny note, if the "kettle" wasn't made of copper, the criminals wouldn't be hanging around to begin
