An extensive search for a missing person in the east Friday ended with a body found in a pond.
Martin County Sheriff's officials are not releasing the name of the person found dead and are not saying if it was a man or a woman, but they say there are no signs of foul play.
Martin County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Drew Robinson says the report of a missing person came in between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon from a family member of the missing person from a home at 8920 U.S. Highway 17 in Williamston.
A helicopter, bloodhound, and about a dozen volunteers on foot searched several hours before finding the body in a pond near the house about 5:20 p.m. in the afternoon.
Deputies are waiting for autopsy results to determine if the death was accidental or not- but again they say there are no clear signs of foul play.
