According to officials a Pitt County man was killed Sunday in Martin County after a tree fell on him while he was cutting it down.
Captain Kenny Warren with the Williamston Fire Department says they were called out to the scene on 3330 Thurman Griffin Rd. in Williamston around 3:40 p.m.
Warren says that's where 54-year-old Daniel Corey of Winterville was working with the homeowner to cut down trees around the home.
Warren says while Corey was cutting down a pine tree the top hit the ground, then the bottom end bounced in the air, and knocked him down pinning him under the tree.
The Griffins Township Volunteer Fire Department was the first on the scene and they worked to pull him out from under the tree, but officials say Corey was killed.
Officials say Corey did cut down trees for a living.
