Man Charged With Strangulation, Baseball Bat Assault

An Oak City man is accused of trying to strangle and then beat another man with an aluminum baseball bat.

Timothy Suggs is charged with felony assault by strangulation inflicting physical injury, and assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Deputies say on Saturday they were called to Martin General Hospital for an assault. They found James Outlaw with severe injuries to his head and face. Outlaw was transferred to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where deputies say he was eventually released.

Their investigation shows Outlaw was at a mobile home near Highway 125 and Highway 42 in the Spring Green area when he and the suspect got into an argument. They say Suggs strangled Outlaw almost to unconsciousness and then struck him in the head and face with the bat.

The 37-year-old Suggs was arrested Tuesday and his bond set at $25,000.
