A New Bern man accused of stealing from his own mother by writing $1,900 worth of bad checks is now behind bars.
Authorities arrested James Hand of New Bern and charged him with 17 fraud charges including forgery. An investigation of several incidents of fraudulent activity of checks drawn from Wachovia bank for 6 months between December 2010 and this month led to the arrest.
