Man Charged After High Speed Chase

A Beaufort County man was jailed after deputies say he led them on a high speed chase this weekend.

Charged with felony flee to elude arrest and resist, delay and obstruct an officer is Charles Midyette of Aurora.

Deputies say early Saturday morning they were on West Road and spotted a vehicle going at a high rate of speed with no head lights on. The deputy tried to pull over the vehicle, but says it increased speed on Broome Road. The vehicle then wrecked into a ditch at the intersection of Broome Road and Highway 33.

Authorities say both people ran from the vehicle, and the 46-year-old Midyette was found hiding in some nearby bushes. After being told not to move, deputies say Midyette jumped up and ran toward the deputy who then deployed his Taser.

Midyette's bond was set at $8,000 while deputies continue to look for his passenger.
