Man Accused Of Assaulting Deputy Sheriff

A Newport man is in jail after authorities say he assaulted a Carteret County deputy sheriff.

Deputies say on Tuesday they were trying to arrest Vincent Rizzi on an outstanding warrant when he resisted arrest on his front porch. They say during the struggle Deputy Jamie Willis had to use pepper spray on Rizzi The man is accused of trying to remove the deputy's gun from his holster.

The deputy was incapacitated from a blow back from the pepper spray and Rizzi was able to get away. Responding deputies quickly spotted the man and took him into custody at gunpoint.

Rizzi has been charged with assault on a government official, fleeing to elude arrest, resist, obstruct, and delay a law enforcement officer, along with the original charge of assault on a female. The 56-year-old man is jailed on a $21,000.00 bond.

I bet he wouldn't do that in Greenville. Our cops are way too intimidating in their crayola yellow shirts and bicycle helmets.

Too bad for Mr. Rizzi that he is not a federal agent. A federal law enforcement agent did basically the same thing to the police during the ECU-UNC football game and was charged with misdemeanor resisting an officer.
