Troopers say a pickup truck driver wasn't paying attention, causing him to be trapped in his truck this afternoon.
The wreck happened at the intersection of Highway 43 North and MacGregor Downs Road in Pitt County.
The Highway Patrol tells us a white Grand Am was heading south on 43 and trying to make a right onto MacGregor Downs, while the pickup truck was following. Troopers say the pickup driver wasn't paying attention, and tried to avoid the slowing car by driving around its right side. The car turned into the pickup, causing it to roll over. The truck ended up in a soy bean field.
The pickup truck driver was trapped in his vehicle and firefighters had to cut off its roof to free him. The man was transported to Vidant Medical Center.
Troopers say the accident remains under investigation.
