UPDATE: Man Arrested For Stealing Campaign Signs In Lenoir County

A local man says he removed campaign signs of a Lenoir County candidate for sheriff from various businesses and residents because he supports the opposing candidate.

Kinston police tell us they received a call about a man stealing campaign signs on Vernon Ave in Kinston at the Exxon gas station around 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

When Thomas Ipock Sr. was interviewed he told authorities he supports Rickie Pearson for Lenoir County Sheriff, and that is why he removed candidate Ronnie Ingram's campaign signs.

Police say they recovered 7 signs in total from Ipock's home.

The Lenoir County Sheriff's Office charged Ipock with 7 counts of possession of stolen property, and Ronnie Ingram filed larceny theft charges against Ipock.

Kinston police say they are assisting the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office in the investigation.

Kinston police also confirmed that Ipock's son is a deputy for the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office.

Ipock was arrested Saturday evening. His bond information was not immediately available.

WITN reached out to Rickie Pearson, and he said, "I have nothing to do with these signs being taken down." Pearson also said that some of his campaign signs have been stolen as well.
