Commuters entering and exiting the main gate should expect delays due to construction activities for the next four months. Beginning Sunday, April 10, all main gate traffic lanes on Holcomb Boulevard will be shifted to facilitate construction work on Camp Lejeune's new, larger main gate canopy which will completely cover all in and outbound lanes.
To execute this shift, all outbound traffic will be temporarily limited to one lane on Sunday, April 10 from 6 a.m. to 6:30 a.m., and all inbound traffic will be temporarily limited to one lane from 6:30 a.m. to 7 a.m.
Throughout the four month period, speeds will be reduced to 15 mph through the temporary bypass lanes. Additionally, pedestrian and bicycle lanes will also be closed through the main gate and, until further notice, along Brewster Blvd. due to ongoing road widening efforts and construction and traffic safety concerns.
"Effectively, Brewster Boulevard from Charles Street to Holcomb Blvd. will be a construction zone for the next year or so," said CDR Marc Delao, Officer in Charge of Construction. "So, additional restrictions have to be put in place to ensure public safety."
Motorists are advised to heed all posted traffic signs and speed reductions.
