Local ROTC Members Eager To Join Elite Force Following Bin Laden Mission

The successful mission by the Navy SEALs team that killed Osama bin Laden has Americans talking about those elite members.

The mission also reaffirmed soon to be soldiers Jack Abate and Jeff Shafer's desire to be a part of a team like that.

Both Abate and Shafer have attended East Carolina University and have been a part of its ROTC program for the last four years. The two say that they are planning on joining the Army Rangers--which is a Special Operations branch of the Army.

Hopeful rangers or Army Special Operatives have to first serve time as an officer and be recognized for their achievements. They then must apply for the program and be assessed before being accepted for training.

Publicly supported and funded mercenaries intoxicated by testosterone and patriotic nonsense. Idiots.

It is commendable for young Americans to step forward and defend the Constitution and the American way of life. However, to enlist and immediately enter the 'elite of the elite' is a pipe dream. It is one thing to talk it, it is an entirely different ting to walk it. Good luck to the ROTC individuals who carry out this task.

Good luck, children. I served with Team One during 'Nam. Only 3 of 100 who apply will make it through BUDS and Hell Week. Big and bad won't get you through. Desire and intelligence MIGHT! The operators I knew in the late 60's were under 6 feet tall and under 200 pounds.... so all you football player types should go see the Marine recruiter so you can help hump their M-60's.

You think you can pass the test. Grow up, sign up and maybe you can be the "ELITE". Many of the strongest, toughest try but we weed out the MEN from the BOYS...
