Being a member of Facebook is paying off for an Elizabeth City food bank.

The Food Bank of the Albemarle will receive 30,000 pounds of food from Tyson Foods. A Tyson statement says 30,000 pounds of food is the equivalent of about 120,000 meals. Tyson held a poll on their Facebook page, and with almost 9,500 votes, the food bank took first place.

Tyson has announced on its page, that because of the overwhelming response and participation from the Facebook community, they are going to donate a truckload of food to all the food banks that participated in the Tyson Hunger Relief contest.

Thanks to everyone for voting. This Food Bank also serves Dare County. Due to Irene the bank was low on food and really needed to win this. Again, thanks everyone for your votes!
