Local Red Cross Workers Continue To Help In Isaac's Aftermath On Gulf

Red Cross volunteers from Eastern Carolina are helping in the aftermath of Hurricane Isaac on the Gulf Coast.

Nine volunteers and three emergency response vehicles from the Red Cross in Pitt County are on the Gulf Coast.

The Red Cross in Onslow County has three disaster volunteers in Mississippi.

Helen Miller from Jacksonville is managing a Red Cross kitchen, while Jim Dunham and Ralph Aviles from New Bern are delivering meals and clean-up kits, tarps and other supplies.

Thousands of people remain in shelters. Hundreds of home were destroyed in southern Louisiana.

It's believed the disaster response effort could last for weeks across multiple states, as tens of thousands are still without power.

The Red Cross has served more than 300,000 meals.
