Lightning Sparks Onslow County Woods Fire

A lightning strike is believed to have sparked a woods fire Friday afternoon outside of Jacksonville.

Multiple fire crews were called to the scene of the fire off of Gum Branch Road between Rock Creek and Rhodestown Road. It took around 2 and a half hours to extinguish the blaze

Gum Branch Road was closed briefly because of the fire, but is now back open.
