Lightning Causes House Fire

A Kinston home was heavily damaged early this morning after being struck by lightning.

Firefighters were called around 5:45 a.m. to a home on Random Road. Public Safety spokesman Woody Spencer says when crews first arrived there was heavy fire involvement in the roof area of the home.

Two people inside safely left the home after the lightning strike and firefighters had the blaze under control in about 30 minutes. No one was injured in the fire.

There was lots of lighting in the sky last night. The sky was flashing every second or two. The most lighting I've seen in recent memory.
