Lebo Adds Two Recruits To 2012-13 Roster

GREENVILLE, N.C. --- East Carolina has received a National Letter of Intent from Marshall Guilmette and Michael Zangari announced head basketball coach Jeff Lebo on Thursday. The two signees will start competing for the Pirates beginning with the 2012-13 season.

“We are very excited to have Marshall and Michael joining the Pirate basketball program,” Lebo said. “They both come from great families, solid high school programs, and have terrific size with the potential to develop into outstanding players.”

Guilmette, a 6-foot-10 forward from Kennesaw, Ga., averaged 10.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game as a junior at Harrison High, leading the Hoyas to an overall record of 22-7. As a member of the Atlanta All-Stars, he averaged 15.5 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Zangari, a 6-foot-9 forward from Lewisberry, Pa., averaged a team-high 18.7 points per game, was a third-team all-state selection at Red Land High School last season. He also shot 63 percent from the floor and nearly 36 percent from beyond the arc leading the Patriots to a second-place finish in the District 3-AAAA playoffs and the state quarterfinals.

“We needed some depth inside with the impending graduations of Darrius (Morrow) and Austin (Steed) and we needed to upgrade in size in the post,” said Lebo. “Both players have unique individual skill sets that will be an asset as we continue to build a program.”

“Zangari is a uniquely skilled face-up forward that can stretch a defense, while Guilmette is an athletic post player that can score with his back to the basket and know down a 15-foot jumper,” ESPN.com’s National Basketball Recruiting Coordinator Paul Biancardi said. “The Pirates now have two posts in which to build a foundation around for the next four years.”

The Pirates open the 2011-12 season on Friday, Nov. 11 against the Milligan College Buffaloes inside Williams Arena at Minges Coliseum. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
