WITN spoke to the Mayor of Kinston B.J Murphy, who says Kinston residents who are without power may not have power restored until Friday.
Kinston has 40 additional workers helping to restore power in the city.
Murphy says that industrial power will be restored before residential power.
Many business along Highway 70 have their power restored including restaurants.
Kinston Mayor BJ Murphy says power crews will work for a few hours tonight to restore power. Murphy says about 12,000 people in Kinston do not have power. Crews will work until 10 p.m. tonight and then start back up early in the morning.
Mayor Murphy says he has driven around Kinston to look at damage. He says several streets are closed due to flooding and low-hanging powerlines. He says he was surprised to see so many people out walking, despite those dangers.
Murphy asked Kinston residents to be patient as crews work to restore power and clear the streets of debris.
The county is under a curfew through dawn. La Grange is under a curfew through 7 a.m.
