Kinston To Salute Veterans

Veterans Day is not until Nov. 11, but the city of Kinston is celebrating our nation's men and women in uniform starting Friday.

The weekend will kick off its Salute! celebrations with a brick dedication ceremony at the Walk of Honor on Herritage St. That is scheduled to get underway at 2:30 p.m. The Tar River Community Band will perform a 7 p.m. show at the Community Council of the Arts.

A parade will wind down Queen St. and Gordon St. to Pearson Park beginning Saturday at 11 a.m. Immediately following the parade, opening ceremonies will be held at the park with Judge Paul Jones serving as the grand marshal and keynote speaker. The Salute! Tribute Show will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Grainger Hill Performing Arts Center.

Memorial services are planned for Sunday afternoon beginning at 2:30 p.m at the American Legion Post 43 on McLewean St.

Finally, something in the news worth reading. I'm sick of hearing about people who do not matter, so sick of those "celebrities" I won't even mention their names. One name I will mention is Captain Ed Freeman, Medal of Honor Recipient. WITN, a story of this TRUE AMERICAN HERO or others that are still defending the freedoms we enjoy would be greatly appreciated.

So? The whole nation DOES NOT bow to you and your "heroes". We don't want you here.
