Kinston Chosen For National Dirt Track Championship Event

The City of Kinston is hoping for an economic boost after being chosen to host a national dirt track racing event in April. Kinston is just one of 8 cities in the country selected.

The race will be held April 30th at the complex at the Lenoir County Fairgrounds. Tourism officials say they're expecting at least 250 riders and their families to shop and stay in Kinston during the race, helping to boost the city's economy.

"They're going to get gas here, they're going to spend money in the restaurants, they're going to shop here. We'll even send information to them - nice little brochures or flyers, that will get them out into the community," said Jan Barwick with Visit Kinston.

WITN, the picture of a motorcycle may mislead some people. This is an ATV national not a motorcycle national.

Im hoping that this is goimg to be flat track racing like they had up north. They were AMA National Events. We had riders from all over the United States. Are best track was in In upstate NY called the Syracuse mile, One thing for sure there wasn't was any 4 wheelers. Most tracks were quarter of a mile and were on packed dirt.If this is the case I'll be there.Im an old 75 yr old motorcycle rider and looking forward to seeing some good racing.Thank You

Ok, yes im new here. We couldnt land this race at Va Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie but so far all i see is moaning and gripes. You dont like something, change it but I for one am glad the race is here for the family. Last time i raced, Kenny Roberts was world champ but let the kids learn. You need any help at the track, ill be there. by the way Stewart rules the air!!!!!!!!!

You are right "Dave". Sometimes they will even pull the nails and steal them too....that is, if they aren't in to tight. They wouldn't want to do anything approaching what could be work. Once those visitors experience the local restaurants one time, they may go out of town from then on to eat. It's tough to keep from becomming frustrated with the service in Kinston since the employees in the local restaurants there move slower than the zombies on Night of the Living Dead, and yes, I'm talking about the legless zombies.

Dave @ 8:45am...That's funny, when you click on Carteret County news, the very first headline is "Neighbors Accused Of Weekend Break-In". Huh, I guess everyone everywhere needs to be locking their stuff up.
