Police: Juvenile Accidentally Shot In Winterville

A juvenile was hospitalized Friday night after an accidental shooting according to Winterville police.

Police were called to a neighborhood near Hillcrest Park in Winterville around 8:45 p.m. Friday.

Police say some juveniles found a gun in a ditch days before the incident, then they were playing with the gun in a home when the weapon accidentally discharged.

The shooting is still under investigation. Officers say the juvenile received non-life threatening injuries. The names of the juveniles involved are not being released.

Found the gun in a ditch....and were PLAYING with it??? How about getting their mug shots and going around to some of the recent robberies to see if anyone can identify any of them??

They say they "found" the gun? Yeah... right. Wanna bet it was stolen?

A kid shot in a park! In Winterville! Time to keep migrating south, Greenville law abiders. Winterville is no longer the place to put down stakes.I've noticed for years how certain groups are allowed to congregate in certain places everyday. The police have shown an incredible tolerance for questionable behavior, as long as it stays at certain locations. Just drive by the store near the RR tracks, which is also near an elementary school.

Maybe it's time for citizen patrols . The Police are overworked and underfunded. They need help from the community.

Hillcrest park is in the Winterville "hood" and has been a mecca for troublesome types of people for ears. My children used to have baseball practice there and their were always groups of undesirables around the park. This is not surprising.

I guess you can't be more specific without risking the chopping block of the WITN censor. But at least most of the regulars on here know who you're talking about.

Wait a minute-- I know the families of those kids. One of them had a distant cousin that had a job.

Don't say negative things like that about my family! I'm a 5th generation section 8 loafer. I come from a proud line of couch potatoes.

Why doesn't work release count as a job? The only job I ever had. I worked for almost a year. I paid taxes too. Do you pay taxes?

This is a prime example of why a ban of handguns in parks is a stupid idea.

Yep, if you have a sign saying no guns, only those that can't read will have them. Such as high school drop outs and thugs.
