The Highway Patrol says a driver injured in a head-on collision Friday morning near Maysville has died. The woman's young child in the back seat survived the crash.
Jessica Taylor of New Bern was taken to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville after the wreck that happened on Highway 17 just north of Maysville at 6:30 a.m. Friday. The woman later died.
The Highway Patrol says the 25-year-old woman drove her Nissan Rogue, which is a crossover SUV, off Highway 17 to the right, over-corrected and went into the other lane. There she collided with an Ford F-350 truck.
The woman's three-year-old daughter, Jaidyn Johnson, was in the backseat and properly restrained in a child safety seat, according to troopers. The child was treated and released from the hospital.
The driver of the truck was not seriously injured.
The Highway Patrol is responding to a head-on collision just north of Maysville this morning. The accident has forced troopers to close both northbound lanes of Highway 17.
It could be several hours before the lanes are open again, according to the NCDOT.
Drivers headed north should take NC-24 west to US-58 west to NC-41 north to NC-58 east and follow it to US-17.
Motorists traveling south should take NC-58 west to NC-41 south to US-58 east to NC-24 east and follow it to US-17.
