Jacksonville "Peace Officer Of The Year"

One local lawman has received an honorable title from veterans.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars chapter recognized Hans Miller as "Peace Officer of the Year" in Jacksonville.

Miller currently serves as police chief at Albert J. Ellis airport in Onslow County. Before that he worked with the sheriff's department, and the State Bureau of Investigation.

It's been rumored Miller will run for sheriff of Onslow County. He tells us he and Sheriff Brown have had conversations about that. Miller says it's likely his name will be on the ballot for sheriff by the election year 2014.

Chief Miller has a long, distinguished record in several arenas. In every capacity, I have known him to be a very competent, honest, and hard working man. Congratulations to him. Like somebody wrote below "Some good news and no one comments." I couldn't agree more. Again, hats off to Chief Miller.

Chief Miller is going to make a great Sheriff. I know who it is making the negative statement below and they are not true. He is supported by hundreds of Law Enforcement Officers as you are not and he will be victorious in his bid for the Office of Sheriff. Make no dought about it. He is running to better the Department and not becasue of the title. Congrats Chief Miller. And "Shocked" let me tell you that most every deputy in the department cant wait till he runs either they will be glad to call him their boss. You do not get selected for an honor such as this because you are disliked.

Chief Miller is firm but fair and runs a tight ship. He doesn't give in to bullying or false rumors.

They should have asked the people who work with him everyday. He is the worst of the worst. I cant wait until he runs for sheriff.
