Insurance Agent Accused Of Embezzling $35,000 From Company

An Onslow County insurance agent is facing charges after officials say he embezzled tens of thousands of dollars from his company.

Peirson Lane, age 44 of Sabiston Drive in Swansboro, was arrested.

According to a news release, North Carolina Department of Insurance investigators allege that between May 2008 and October 2011, Lane deposited approximately $35,000 of company money into his personal account while employed as an agent with John Hackney Insurance Agency in Swansboro.

Lane is charged with four counts each of embezzlement by an insurance agent, embezzlement, and obtaining property by false pretense.

Lane was arrested December 16 in Onslow County and was locked up under a $220,000 secured bond.

THis kind of theift indicates that owners of these companies are not checking on Zap.Owners of all companies need to "Review Bank Statements",Look over books,Match income daily. Simply owners need to get involved,Not trust employees,Watch Cash flows. Owners simply put too much trust in management. Owners should have an idea of sales or income weekly/monthly. Subtract your expenses ,watch cash flows. Owners should know what it takes for monthly expenses. Just get involved. You own the business, not the employees.Owners should ask questions. Let employees know you are involved. THings like this are simply happening because owners are not mananaging day to day operations & Trusting someone else to do it.Bank statments tell it all.Look at them Daily(On-line) or monthly by statement reviews."ASk Questions".

We still have to be careful of violating someone's rights. Can't just go through everyone's lunchbox.

Guess you never owned a business? Any employee who works for me will have rules to follow. It has nothing to do with lunchbox.Just said owners should be aware of what employees are doing. So you think owners who check bank statments is wrong? Sounds like you are part of the problem!!
