After more than a year of delays, inmates are now finally inside the new Onslow County jail.
Prisoners were moved in without any problems this morning from the existing jail across the street and those housed in Sampson County .
The county dedicated the new $57 million complex last summer, but problems with the building's smoke handling systems delayed the county in obtaining an occupancy permit until this February. Then Sheriff Ed Brown had to hire and train new staff for the detention center which brought on more delays.
The new jail can house 528 inmates.
