Four inmates from a prison work crew were injured after the state vehicle they were in was rear-ended in Craven County.
The Highway Patrol says it happened around 2:30 p.m. on Streets Ferry Road, outside of Vanceboro.
The DOT truck was heading east on Streets Ferry when it slowed down to make a right turn onto a gravel road. Troopers say that's when a vehicle driven by Archie Washington of Vancenoro struck the truck from behind.
The four inmates were from the Carteret Correctional Center in Newport. They were taken to CarolinaEast Medical Center for what appeared to be minor injuries. The DOT driver was not injured.
Troopers say Washington will be charged with failure to reduce speed.
