Toddler Found With Burns, Broken Bones; Mom Charged

A mother is arrested for abusing her toddler after the child was found with second degree burns and broken bones.

Tasha Caine of Enfield was charged with felony child abuse on Thursday by Enfield police. Her son is 15-months old.

Police say earlier this month they received a report of suspected child abuse from Social Services. The child was taken on October 1st to Halifax Regional Medical Center for treatment of burns. He was immediately airlifted to UNC Burn Center where the boy was found to have second degree burns. Doctors also found bone fractures in various stages of healing.

Caine's bond was set at $200,000 and the mother has a November 23rd court date. The toddler has been released from the hospital.

I think it is some kind of strange that this lady gets suspected of abuseing her child and we can pretty much say that she did it but she still has to have her day in court. But what about the parents who go to court knowing that they did harm or even killed their child and get found not guilty. It is a shame how the judicial system is so twisted.

...If you discovered that the mother was beaten like this when she was a baby?

my opinion of what she did would not change. the wounds she inflicted on her child would not change. just because someone does something to you does not give you the right to do it to another-albeit innocent-human being. lets hope the cycle of abuse is broken with this child and that the mother gets the necessary jail and far away from any children.

No; it might explain where she learned it, but not excuse it. Not everyone who has a rough start dishes it out to the next helpless person. Many remember how it felt, and try to do better.

I did not see anything in this article stating this young lady gets any kind of government assistance! You are looking over the most important subject which is this child has been severely hurt & needs a better living arrangement. There is no excuse for child abuse & we all need to take a stand! Even if she does get government assistance being she's African American, that is still not the important issue @ hand here!

ok what does the lady being african american have anything to do with it? Yes the child was harmed and she is definitly gonna do some time for the crime. But nothing will replace the scars this child has to wear for the rest of his life.

This worthless excuse of a human being doesn't deserve to be called a "Mom". I pray this child will be placed in a home with loving, caring, compassionate people.

what cult? i said if she was being held hostage by a cult (or some other party) who abused her child as she could only watch helplessly, she isnt guilty of either abuse or negligence, and thats pretty much what wouldve had to happen for her not to be found guilty. that response was to a comment regarding 'seeing all the evidence before making judgement'. so im not sure what that has to do with your point at all.
