The incoming Speaker of the NC House toured one are in the east Thursday and had some good news.
Republican representative Thom Tillis was in Onslow County. Tills said, despite the difficult decisions facing lawmakers, taxpayers won't see their taxes go up. Tills says, "The only thing I'm certain of in the legislative cycle is the taxpayers will not have to worry about a tax increase."
Republicans will be in charge in Raleigh for the first time in 100-years when the legislature reconvenes in a couple of weeks. Lawmakers will have to deal with a 3 and a half billion dollar budget shortfall. Tillis says, "We're going to have to go through it and figure out how to tighten our belts the same the working families and small businesses have that's how they're surviving. And we have to do the same thing. There are areas where we will eliminate programs, programs we disagree with the implementation of to begin with, so overtime there will be areas, and we have to be honest to state employees and the people to the fact there may be certain areas that are affected that way."
